Starting A Business Blog

This is the next post in the series Successful Business Blogging. Today, we will look at getting started

What Is Your Niche

There is no shortage of businesses that are seeking to build their online presence. Therefore, it is important to determine what you bring to the marketplace that is different and better than the rest of your competition. Determining your niche is the basis of everything you will do, from your target audience to your style of content, and it can help you go far in terms of deciding exactly what and how you will write.

Establish Your Goals

If you do not know where you’re going, it will be difficult to know when you get there. That is why it is so important to make a decision about the purpose of your blog at the beginning.

Here are some ideas to consider:

  • Are you trying to drive conversions?
  • Make sales?
  • Increase engagement?

No matter what your goal is, defining it will help you reach it.

Choose Your Topics

Now that you know what your goal is, you can choose which topics you are going to cover. There is not enough time to write about every aspect of your business or field of expertise. It is important to narrow your focus to a few major topics. For example, if you are a business that specializes in inbound marketing, perhaps some of your main topics could be inbound lead generation and social media marketing.

There are a lot of topics a freelance writer who works from home can blog about. Currently, I write on freelance writing and business blogging. Otherwise, I would be too scattered in my approach. Keep in mind that your focus may change over time for many different reasons.
